Sara Haines and Liz Neumann skate the cpdsa circle

This past weekend I was drawing at the cpdsa skate circle in Central Park. Sara Haines and her film crew showed up to shoot the skaters! It was great! Sara Haines, correspondent from the Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda, is skating around the cpdsa circle with two of the circle’s regulars. They had her safely laced in between them as they happily skated the circle! Sara was really into the skate, a team player! She and her producer, Liz Neumann, were really delightful and energetic ladies. Sara is known as the Computer Chick on the NBC’s Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda. She’s great on the Today Show!

Sara skated many laps around the skate circle with two of the cpdsa regulars, (top). Here she was beginning to dance after completing her laps!

This is Liz Neumann, producer for the NBC Today Show, filming one of the skaters at cpdsa circle! She looked like she was having a great time filming all the skaters. Liz was all over the place! A little girl was skating, lower left corner, her name was Mia and she was visiting from Miami. She was a real trooper, too! Cool Guy is skating backward behind Mia!

Two Handed cpdsa drawings

CPDSA! YAY!

I can’t get enough of the cpdsa Central Park skaters! Here’s the latest line up at the skate circle. I decided to try drawing the roller skaters with two hands! Best decision I ever made…I could get down twice the amount of information, faster! Yahoo! When you’re drawing roller skaters it’s good to be able to get more down in the same amount of time as a one handed drawing; there’s extreme movement/motion happening so the faster you can get the information down the better. Enjoyed using the PanPastel, too. Great stuff!

Cool Guy

I call this roller skater, Cool Guy. Cool and relaxed is the understatement of the year! He just does his thing, skates the circle calmly with his long legs, his shades and his ear phones. Doesn’t bother anyone, no one bothers him…Cool Guy!

Joshua Tree National Park

These were a few of the watercolors I made while drawing in Joshua Tree National Park. What an incredible, dauntingly beautiful place. I was a bit intimidated at first…how do you interpret such monumental beauty? I gave it a shot!

An Afternoon with the CPDSA in Central Park

This is a drawing from the afternoon with Liz Steel from Urban Sketchers and Veronica Lawlor from studio1482. I call this guy, (he doesn’t skate), Martini Man, because “he’s shaken, not stirred.” I drew him with consistent up and down sharp edged lines. He stands in the central area by the DJ and jiggers himself up and down, his feet firmly planted.

Amazing!

As Ronnie mentioned in her urban sketchers blog, this is Robot Boy! Enough said!

This is “Sexy” on the right. It says so on his belt!

And last but not least, this little boy was also in the center ring dancing with a hooola hoop and watching some other people dance. He was into it!

This was a fun afternoon with Liz Steele and Veronica Lawlor. We had a lot of commentary about the skaters and the dancers. It’s hard not to, they are such characters and so wonderful to draw. Thanks for a great afternoon Liz and Ronnie!

Spiritual Space for Haiti

This is a drawing I made in St. Thomas, USVI, of the Mocko Jumbies. I was born and raised on St. Thomas and “grew up” with Mocko Jumbies. They originated in Africa and came to the islands during the time of slavery. They walk on stilts and because of their great height achieve spiritual space and are the protectors and seers of their villages. Their tall legs enable them to see evil spirits coming from far away and so warn the villagers to save themselves. They are known to be the protectors of children in particular. I hope, by donating to CARE through the onedrawingaday website we can help protect the people and children of Haiti. Margaret
